4 Factors To Consider When Renting A Storage Unit

When renting a storage unit, there are multiple factors that you need to take into consideration. You need to consider how close the storage unit is to your home, how secure the storage unit feels, if the storage unit invests in pest control services, and if you can purchase insurance for your belongings.

#1 How Close It Is to Your Home

If you are using a storage unit as an extra storage for items that you use on a regular or seasonal basis, you are going to want to have easy access to the storage units. You are not going to want to have to go out of your way to pick up your winter clothing or to grab your snow shovels out of storage.

If you are using a storage unit as an extension of your home, make sure that it is close to your home or is near the routes that you normally drive to school, work, or the store. You want to have a storage unit that works with the rest of your life.

#2 How Secure the Storage Unit Feels

Next, consider how secure the storage unit feels. Are all of the storage units located inside of a secure building? Are the entrances to the storage units outside, but inside of a fenced area? Look at the physical structure and layout of the storage facility and make sure that it fits with your safety needs.

You can also find out what other safety features the storage facility offers. Do you need a code to enter the property? Do they have security cameras or a guard on duty? Most self-storage units have some security measures in place, so be sure to ask about them.

#3 How They Keep Pests Away

Keeping pests away from your belongings is important to keeping your belongings secure and safe. Find out if the storage unit takes any proactive actions to keep pests away. Do they have a pest control service they work with to treat the area? Do they have rules that help keep food out of storage units? Make sure that the storage unit itself helps keeps pests away. Remember, you can help keep pests out of your storage unit by cleaning everything before you put it in storage and by never putting food items in your storage unit.

#4 Can You Access Insurance

Finally, see if you can purchase an insurance policy through the storage company to protect your belongings. If they do not offer an insurance policy, see if your renter's policy or homeowner's policy can extend coverage to your storage unit or if you can purchase a separate policy to protect your belongings in your storage unit.

Now you're ready to safely store your extra belongings in a storage facility such as Bill King Moving. Good luck!

I realized that the move we would be making across the country would be difficult for my animals, so I started doing some research to look for tips and tricks. I found that by taking breaks and letting them play at parks along the way, things were really simple. On this website, I thought it would be fun to explore different tips about moving, since you never know when you will find yourself in a moving truck.
